A few quick answers. No commitment.
Is my town inside the free delivery range?
Our lot is at 59 East Lake Crescent NE, Airdrie, AB T4A 2H5. Delivery is free within 300km of it. That includes Red Deer, Sylvan Lake, Lacombe, Blackfalds, Ponoka, Rocky Mountain House and Olds, and on the Edmonton side, Wetaskiwin and Camrose. Whether the lot is an hour from you or 2–3 hours away, the steps below are the same. Each town page has the details for your town.
Beyond 300km, we quote delivery case by case. Call us at (825) 736-4438 and tell us where you are.
Step 1: How do I apply from home?
Start with the online application. It asks for your contact details, your work and income, and what you are looking for, and it takes about three minutes. You do not need to have picked a vehicle first.
We review every application and call you back to go over what the lenders need. If your credit took a hit, our guide to bad credit car loans in Alberta explains how lenders read a file like yours.
Step 2: What should I have ready?
- Government photo ID, such as a valid Canadian driver’s licence.
- Your last two pay stubs, or a letter from your employer if you have no stubs yet. If you are self-employed, your latest Notice of Assessment and a few months of bank statements.
- A void cheque or a pre-authorized payment form.
- Proof of your address, such as a utility bill or a bank statement.
Lenders differ on what they ask for. Our guide to what car lenders verify when you work lays it out, and our self-employed car financing page covers business owners.
Step 3: How do I choose a vehicle I cannot see in person?
Start on our vehicles page. Each vehicle has its own page with photos, the kilometres and its details.
Every vehicle completes a 162-point inspection by a licensed mechanic shop before it is listed. The inspection report is available on request before you buy, and a copy is included in your deal documents at the time of sale. You can read how our inspection works before you ask for a report.
If you ask, we can also send a video walk-around. And you can call us at (825) 736-4438 and ask what you would ask standing next to the car. We will tell you what we see.
We are a licensed Alberta dealer, AMVIC licence B2038593. You can check the licence on AMVIC’s public register before you commit.
Step 4: How does the paperwork work from a distance?
This is the part people worry about most. Our own staff deliver it, and all the paperwork is done remotely. Documents are signed electronically, so there is no trip to Airdrie.
Before you sign anything, we go over the amount, the interest rate, the term and the payment with you. You are under no obligation until you sign. Every lender decides each file, so what you sign depends on the lender that decides yours. Our step-by-step guide to how it works shows the whole path.
Step 5: What happens on delivery day?
Our own staff drive the vehicle to you. Delivery is free within 300km of our Airdrie lot. Beyond 300km, we quote delivery case by case.
After your application is reviewed and you have chosen a vehicle, we agree a delivery day with you. When the vehicle arrives, take your time with a walk-around in daylight. Our first 30 days checklist covers what to check and what to do in the first weeks.
Step 6: What about registration and insurance?
These are Alberta rules, not ours. The Government of Alberta says: “Vehicles on a public roadway in Alberta must have valid insurance and a Vehicle Registration Certificate.”
Alberta registers vehicles through registry agents, which ask for proof of ownership, such as a bill of sale; proof of valid insurance for the vehicle, in the name of each person registering it; and acceptable identification. So line up insurance in your own name first. We can register the vehicle for you, so you don't need a trip to a registry office.
Example payments are estimates. Not an offer.

Can I buy a car without visiting the dealer?
Yes. You can apply online and read the inspection report before you buy. Our own staff deliver it, and all the paperwork is done remotely. You do not have to visit our lot in Airdrie, but you are welcome to if you would like to see the vehicle first.

How do I know the vehicle is in the condition you say it is?
Every vehicle completes a 162-point inspection by a licensed mechanic shop before it is listed. The inspection report is available on request before you buy, and a copy is included in your deal documents at the time of sale. If you ask, we can also send a video walk-around.
Can I see the vehicle before I decide?

What do I need for insurance and registration in Alberta?
The Government of Alberta says vehicles on a public roadway must have valid insurance and a Vehicle Registration Certificate. To register, a registry agent asks for proof of ownership, such as a bill of sale, proof of valid insurance for the vehicle in the name of each person registering it, and acceptable identification. We can register the vehicle for you, so you don't need a trip to a registry office. You will need insurance in your name first.
How do I know you are a licensed dealer?
Shift Happens Auto Sales is a licensed Alberta dealer, AMVIC licence B2038593. You can look up the licence on AMVIC's public register, which is linked at the bottom of every page on our site. We would rather you check before you commit than take our word for it.
My credit took a hit. Can I still buy this way?
You can apply. Steady income you can prove is the strongest part of a file where credit took a hit, and your score mostly sets the rate. Every lender decides each file, and we review every application and call you back.
