What would a used Altima payment look like at each credit tier?
Your credit tier mostly sets the rate, and the price of the car sets the amount. To show both, here are three example prices for a used Altima. Each has 5% GST added (AMVIC says GST is the only mandatory fee a dealer can add to the advertised price), is financed over 72 months with $0 down, and uses the example rate for its credit tier.
Example, not an offer. The prices show how a payment moves; they are not what a used Altima costs. Interest is the cost of borrowing: what you pay beyond the amount financed, with no lender fees counted. A longer loan lowers the payment and raises the interest, as the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada says too, so look at both. This page is part of our guide to used sedans in Calgary.
Bi-weekly payment (26 a year), monthly equivalent and interest at each tier:
$12,000 example: $12,600 with 5% GST, 72 months, $0 down
Prime (750+), 6.9% APR: ~$99/bi-weekly (~$214/mo), interest about $2,800
Near-Prime (650–749), 9.9% APR: ~$107/bi-weekly (~$233/mo), interest about $4,130
Subprime (500–649), 16.9% APR: ~$129/bi-weekly (~$280/mo), interest about $7,490
Deep Subprime (300–499), 24.9% APR: ~$156/bi-weekly (~$339/mo), interest about $11,720
$16,000 example: $16,800 with 5% GST, 72 months, $0 down
Prime (750+), 6.9% APR: ~$132/bi-weekly (~$286/mo), interest about $3,740
Near-Prime (650–749), 9.9% APR: ~$143/bi-weekly (~$310/mo), interest about $5,510
Subprime (500–649), 16.9% APR: ~$172/bi-weekly (~$373/mo), interest about $9,980
Deep Subprime (300–499), 24.9% APR: ~$208/bi-weekly (~$452/mo), interest about $15,630

Subprime (500–649), 16.9% APR: ~$215/bi-weekly (~$466/mo), interest about $12,480
Deep Subprime (300–499), 24.9% APR: ~$260/bi-weekly (~$564/mo), interest about $19,540
How do I check a used Altima for recalls?
Before you buy a used vehicle, Transport Canada says to check whether any recalls apply to it: search its recalls database by make, model and year, and use the maker's VIN-based lookup if there is one (Transport Canada lists each maker's tool). It also says: “The manufacturer will almost always make these repairs free of charge.” If a recall is still open, you can ask the seller to do the repair before you pick up the vehicle.
Transport Canada also warns that “not all vehicles in a certain make, model and model year group are subject to a given safety related recall.” Only the VIN tells you, so ask the seller for it and run it before you decide.
- •Run the car's VIN through the maker's recall lookup, which Transport Canada lists.
- •If a recall is open, ask the seller to have the repair done before you pick up the vehicle (Transport Canada's advice).
- •After you buy, register the used vehicle with the manufacturer so recall notices reach you (Transport Canada's advice).
What do lenders look at when I finance a used Altima with bad credit?
Lenders compare your pay with the payment and look at how long you have worked; your score mostly sets the rate. A payment near 15% of gross monthly pay is a common rule of thumb, not a lender rule. On the $16,000 example at the Subprime example rate, about $373 a month, that is about $2,500 a month in gross pay. Example, not an offer.
In our experience, lenders typically look for about $2,800 a month in income you can prove, from all sources combined. If you are under that, talk to us first. A co-applicant, a bigger down payment or a few months of income history can change the picture.
See what lenders check on pay stubs, T4s and bank statements, and how pay and score fit together on the income and credit grid. Every lender decides each file. We review every application and call you back.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I finance a used Nissan Altima with bad credit in Calgary?
Many people with a bruised credit file do. Lenders compare your pay with the payment, and your credit tier mostly sets the rate. Example, not an offer. A $16,000 Altima plus GST at the Subprime example rate is about $172 bi-weekly over 72 months, $0 down. We review every application and call you back; every lender decides each file.
What is the monthly payment on a used Altima?
It depends on the price, the loan length and your credit tier. On a $16,000 example plus 5% GST over 72 months with $0 down, the payment runs from about $286 a month at the Prime example rate to about $373 at Subprime and about $452 at Deep Subprime. Bi-weekly that is about $132 to $208. Example, not an offer. Each lender sets the rate for your file.
How do I check a used Altima for recalls?
Transport Canada says to check before you buy: search its recalls database by make, model and year, and use the maker's VIN-based lookup if there is one. It says the manufacturer will almost always make recall repairs free of charge, and that you can ask the seller to do an open repair before you pick up the vehicle. Only the VIN shows whether a recall applies to the car you are looking at.
What credit score do I need to finance a used Altima?
There is no single cut-off. Your score places you in a tier, and the tier mostly sets the rate: Prime (750+) 4.99–8.9% APR, Near-Prime (650–749) 6.9–12.9% APR, Subprime (500–649) 7.9–24.9% APR, Deep Subprime (300–499) 19.9–29.9% APR. Income, how long you have worked, your down payment and the car matter too. Every lender decides each file.
Do I need a certain income to finance a used Altima?
In our experience, lenders typically look for about $2,800 a month in income you can prove, from all sources combined. If you are under that, talk to us first. A co-applicant, a bigger down payment or a few months of income history can change the picture.
Does a down payment lower the payment on a used Altima?
Yes. A down payment comes off the amount you finance, so the payment and the interest both fall. On the $16,000 example plus GST at the Subprime example rate, $2,000 down changes the payment from about $172 to about $151 bi-weekly over 72 months. Example, not an offer. Whether a lender asks for a down payment depends on the file.
Can you deliver a used Altima to Calgary?
Yes. Delivery is free within 300km of our Airdrie lot, which covers Calgary. Our own staff deliver it, and all the paperwork is done remotely.
